Challenge yourself and join this adventure on the Ecuadorian mainland, an area with incredible and rich geography located along the Equator  Bike down the slopes of Tungurahua active volcano, explore the colorful Andean fields on a horse, climb up waterfalls in the Amazon rainforest, rafti on the Jatunyacu River, trek to the rim of Cuicocha Crater Lake and soak in Papallactas' volcanic waters. In addition, experience a fantastic cultural encounter with two local indigenous communities and learn about their customs, food, knowledge and life style in the Andes and Amazon regions.

Day 1
Quito

Arrival in Quito

Welcome to Quito! This well-preserved colonial city was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. It is considered the cultural capital of South America and the second most important city of the old Inca Empire. Spend your arrival day exploring the old town of Quito and the surrounding area. 

In the evening, one of our trip leaders will meet you at the hotel for a welcome briefing and there will be plenty of time to discuss details and answer any questions you may have regarding the adventure.

Avenue of Volcanoes & Hiking

Today we will visit the Avenue of Volcanos. We will hike around Limpiopungo lagoon and the foot hills of the Ruminñahui Volcano enjoying the best views of the Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in the world!

Activity: Limpiopungo Lagoon Trekking Adventure

After breakfast, we leave Quito driving southwards along the Avenue of Volcanos, while getting the chance to see the colorful Andean fields. After arriving at the Cotopaxi National Park, we will go hiking around Limpiopungo lagoon around the foot hills of the Ruminñahui volcano.The hike features the best views of the Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano in the world.

In the afternoon we continue our drive towards the Llanganates National Park,  known as the sacred mountain. We'll arrive in  the town of Baños, located at the entrance of the Amazon. This town offers excellent nightlife and dance clubs, as well as a great selection of restaurants.

Llanganates National Park on Two Wheels

We will spend today mountain biking in Llanganates National Park. Our ride will take us across verdant forests, Pastaza River Canyon and numerous waterfalls until we arrive at Baños, located on the foothills of the Tungurahua volcano.

Activity: Biking in Llanganates National Park

This morning we mountain bike from the Llanganates National Park down to the Pastaza River Canyon, enjoying the beautiful scenery of the cloud forest. The road brings us through Andean farms and a beautiful canyon with many waterfalls.

While descending into the jungle, we will have a breathtaking view of Baños, very well known for its spectacular location right on the foothills of the Tungurahua volcano. This volcano has been active since 1999 and is the main attraction of this region. In the afternoon we will have some time to explore the town and then we will enjoy the best night life.

Road Of Waterfalls & Canyoning in the Amazon

Today we will explore the road of the waterfalls. We'll visit Bride's Veil, Pailon del Diablo and Llanganates National Park. Last, we take a hike and enjoy some exciting canyoning in the tropical jungle, where we spend the night amidst the lush green vegetation and the sweet sound of Amazon birds and other wildlife.

Activity: Waterfalls & Canyoning in the Jungle

This morning we will hit the road of the waterfalls. The first stop will be at the Bride´s Veil waterfall, where we will take the Tarabita (cable car) to get across the Pastaza River. Then we will hike down to the Pailon del Diablo waterfall, the second highest in Ecuador. Later, we head deeper into the jungle inside the Llanganates National Park. The name “llanganates” comes from “beautiful mountain” in the local native language. 600 years ago, the Incas hid their golden treasure here. Explorers spent many years looking for this treasure, but some of it disappeared in this thick, pristine jungle.

During our three-hour hike through the tropical jungle, we will climb along several waterfalls. This is a humid and warm area which will make our experience even more demanding, so get ready to enjoy canyoning, which is basically jumping off rocks into pools of water, it's a massive adrenaline rush!  Our local native guide will also teach us about the incredible nature and wildlife of the area. We will stay in the tropical environment and spend the night at a jungle lodge.

Day 5
QuitoRio Jatunyacu

Paddling the Jatunyacu River & Soaking in Hot Springs

Today paddle our way along the Jatunyacu River on an exciting day of river rafting. We'll have a lot of fun playing games in the water and will explore one of the canyons along the river. The day wraps up at a volcanic hot springs resort, where you can embrace more water in a more relaxing manner, with a soak in warm, therapeutic waters.

Activity: Jatunyacu River Rafting and Volcanic Hot Springs

We greet the day by preparing to paddle the wild waves of the Jatunyacu River. The beauty of this river will inspire you and reveal the magic of the Amazon rainforest. After a safety briefing from our rafting guides, we will start our class III rafting expedition down the Jatunyacu River, well known for its clean water and awesome rapids. We will have a lot of fun playing some games and exploring one of the canyons. The rafting adventure ends includes a stop for a picnic prepared by our guides.

We conclude our day with a drive back up to the Andes, stopping to visit the paradise of hummingbirds in Guango Reserve and finally continuing up to the volcanic hot springs resort, where we will spend the night.

Day 6
QuitoOtavalo

Bird-watching in the Cloud Forest & Cooking Class

First, we will enjoy a bird-watching tour in a cloud forest, followed by a visit to the Otavalo Market, a famous indigenous handicraft market. We will then visit residents living at the edge of Imbabura volcano and have the opportunity of learn about their local culture. Our day finishes with a superb organic cooking lesson using local products.

Activity: Hiking the Cloud Forest, Hummingbirds Paradise & Otavalo Market

After a two-hour bird-watching tour through the cloud forest, we will travel across the Andes to visit Otavalo and its amazing indigenous handicraft market.
Later in the afternoon, we'll be transferred to the slopes of Imbabura volcano to enjoy a cultural encounter with the local people and learn about their traditional way of living while sharing the daily activities with the families. In the evening, we will enjoy an organic cooking lesson using the local products.

Day 7
QuitoCuicocha

Trekking Around Cuicocha Crater Lake

Grab your hiking boots for our 5-hour hike around the Cuicocha crater lake. The hike offers amazing views of the active volcano and of the picturesque valleys of an ecological reserve. Following the hike, we'll hop on a boat for a different perspective of the volcano and for a chance to take a dip among the bubbles coming up from the hot center.

Activity: Trekking the Loop of Cuicocha Crater Lake

Embark on a 5-hour hike around Cuicocha Crater Lake, with breathtaking views of the active volcano and of the amazing valleys located in the Cotacachi-Cayapas ecological reserve. On this trek, you will reach an altitude of 3620m (11880 ft) and hike 14.5km (9 mi) around the crater.

You can take a boat ride to the center of the crater to observe its activity, and watch as bubbles surface from the center of the caldera or jump in and go for a refreshing swim in its volcanic waters!

In the afternoon, we will head back to Quito.
